Why is a C.O.A.C.H. Advocate Needed?
Illnesses can be very stressful and sometimes disruptive for the patient and the patient's family. There are times when someone other than the hospital staff is needed. Patient's may experience emotions that may make it difficult for them to express their needs and concerns.

They often fear they may:
- Break down and cry
- Have concerns that never communicated
- Become hostile
- Feel intimidated
- Be labeled

Many are often fearful of repercussions if they complain and will be labeled as a complainer. You can assure your patient's and their families that taking steps to utilize available resources provided to them is appropriate.
You can assure your patient's that having a C.O.A.C.H. Advocate is not viewed as complaining or causing problems. Again reassure them it is in their best interest to use resources that are in place. Help them understand the benefits of a C.O.A.C.H. Advocate. Advise your patient's using resources can provide:
- Support
- Assistance
- Hope and Encourgement
Your patient's and their families can contact a C.O.A.C.H. Advocate when they:
- Don't know whom to ask for help
- Even if your request for assistance has been refused by others
- Need help understanding how services will affect their health insurance
You are welcome to contact a C.O.A.C.H. Advocate to simply discuss your patient's situation. This can be done by:
- Telephone
- Fax
- In writing, by letter or email
- By appointment
- Office visit
Upon the patient meeting with a C.O.A.C.H. Advocate suggestions will be made regarding what can be done to address your issues or concerns. No action will be taken unless requested by the:
- Client
- Family on the client's behalf (if the patient is unable to make the request)
